Teaching English in Florence

Once you have completed an online or onsite teaching certificate course with Teaching English in Italy, combine intensive language studies in Italian and learning about Italian life and culture through teaching English in Florence as an intern with World Endeavors.

For this program, we recommend signing up for the Onsite TESOL in Florence, the Online TESOL Certificate, or any to the following TESOL 1 + TEYL, TESOL 1 + TBE, TESOL 2 + TEYL, TESOL 2 + TBE courses.

As a participant in this program, you are provided with a welcome orientation to familiarize you with Florence, the language program, and the internship process upon arrival. During the first month, Italian language courses are scheduled to help you become acquainted with the Italian culture and the language itself. In the second month, the teaching internship begins, while the Italian language training continues. As a teacher of English intern, you will be teaching English to children and/or adults.

Although TEFL training and certification is not a requirement to participate in this program, completing an online or onsite Teaching Certificate through Teaching English in Italy would be helpful and provide a foundation and background knowledge in teaching English.

Throughout the 3-6 month program, ample opportunities will be provided to experience authentic Italian life through optional weekly social events and weekend excursions in and around Tuscany. These activities are organized to provide opportunities for meeting people, making friends, practicing Italian, and learning more about Italian culture.

No prior Italian language knowledge is required to participate and placement tests will be given upon arrival in Florence. Representatives are available in Florence to provide support and answer questions throughout the duration of the internship. Internships are offered year round and begin on specific dates every month. Application deadlines are 90 days prior to the start date of the internship.

Due to cultural considerations, it is very difficult to secure an internship during the month of August. World Endeavors encourages applicants to make their plans with this in mind. Applicants will be able to continue language classes during the month of August; however, internships will not likely be available during this month.

Three or six months of intensive Italian language training (80 hours per month)

Round-Trip airfare to Florence, Italy
