About
Teaching English in Italy was founded by Sheila Marie Corwin and this website was developed for anyone who is interested in teaching English in private language schools in Italy and/or other countries.
Sheila Corwin, has a lot of experience visiting, living, and working in Italy as not only a tourist, but an English language teacher and teacher trainer. She first came to Italy in 1984, where she spent the summer with an Italian family in the city of Parma as an exchange student. She later discovered that she had distant relatives in the Italian region of Liguria and made frequent trips to visit them in the years that followed. In 2002, she pursued her dream of living in Italy and worked in a private language school, teaching English in the city of Florence, for two years. After deciding to settle in Florence, Italy, permanently, in 2007, Sheila served as academic director and principal trainer for a teacher training and cultural center that offers an ongoing four-week TEFL certificate course.
Sheila has a Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) certificate from the linguistics department at Sonoma State University and a Master of Arts in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (MA TESOL) from the Monterey Institute of International Studies, with an emphasis in Language Program Administration (LPA) in Monterey, California. She has worked as a student services coordinator for a university study abroad program in Florence and currently continues her work in TESOL (from Italy) as a tutor for students who are enrolled in an online TEFL certificate course based in London, England. In addition, she is working as a curriculum consultant and trainer for a teacher training organization based in Mexico. She is also working with TESOL, Inc (A Global Education Association) as an assistant instructor for a TESOL Core Certificate Program. Sheila has taught English language courses (onsite) at the university level in Oaxaca, Mexico; and in a private language school in Florence, Italy and in her home state, California, USA.
